Solheim Cup Will Affect Area Traffic

The City of West Des Moines is hosting the 2017 Solheim Cup from Aug. 14-20, 2017 at Des Moines Golf and Country Club. The event will likely attract 175,000 spectators over the week. This will cause a huge increase in traffic, some of which will affect Waukee.

West Des Moines will close Jordan Creek Parkway from University Avenue to Lake Drive for the entire week. If you regularly travel on Jordan Creek Parkway, it would be wise to plan an alternate route.

Barricades will be placed at the intersections at University Avenue and Lake Drive, and vehicles headed north on Jordan Creek Parkway will be required to turn right onto Lake Drive. Traffic coming from I-80 will also be required to turn right onto Lake Drive.

The closing of Jordan Creek Parkway will likely increase traffic on Grand Prairie Parkway, University Avenue, and Hickman Road. Commuters should expect delays the entire week, but especially on the morning of Friday, Aug. 18., the first day of the tournament. Heavy traffic is also expected after 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday after music concerts, when everyone leaves the course.

The West Des Moines police department has developed ideal routes for anyone hoping to attend the event.
