Dallas County residents headed to the polls on November 7. Waukee residents voted for three out of four candidates in the City Council race as well as on a measure to impose a one percent sales tax in the county.

According to the Dallas County Auditor's unofficial election results, voters in Waukee and the Dallas County portions of Clive, Urbandale and West Des Moines voted 61.21 percent in favor of the sales tax. The one percent tax on retail items will go into effect July 1, 2018. Waukee is anticipated to receive $2 million annually from the tax. $1 million a year will go into park improvement projects, and $1 million will go into an escrow account to offset future property tax increases related to a second Waukee Public Safety Building.

In the City Council race, incumbents Anna Bergman, Charlie Bottenberg and Brian Harrison along with newcomer Courtney Clarke ran for three open seats. Here are the results of that race:

  • Anna Bergman - 1,049 votes for 29.99%
  • Charlie Bottenberg - 854 votes for 24.41%
  • Courtney Clarke - 823 votes for 23.53%
  • Brian Harrison - 709 votes for 20.27%
  • Write-In - 63 votes for 1.8%
