The Waukee Police Department is proud to continue its Citizens Academy. This is the fifth year the program is being offered to Waukee business partners and residents. The Citizens Academy classes will take place on Thursday evenings from October 25, 2018 through January 10, 2019. The 30-hour block of instruction is designed to give members of the public a working knowledge of the practices, policies and procedures governing the Waukee Police Department. The Academy consists of 10 weekly three-hour sessions and an optional ride-along with an officer.
“We have had great citizen responses to this program,” said Sergeant Mackenzie Sposeto. “We look forward to a new group this year and being able to provide another inside look to the Waukee Police Department in an engaging and impactful way.”
The Academy’s sessions have been designed to incorporate an interactive format with hands-on experiences whenever practical. Instructors are certified police officers, supervisors and other personnel with expertise in various areas.
Some of the topics covered include:

• Police professional standards and ethics
