Waukee Named a Best Town for Families

Family Photo small.jpg

Family Circle, a home and family magazine, recently conducted a study to find the best towns for families in 2015 – and Waukee made the cut.

Family Circle examined cities from across the United States, and based its list on the following criteria:

• Population
• Median Income
• Median Home Price
• Households with Children
• GreatSchools Rating

Family Circle points to Waukee's tight-knit roots, community festivals and excellent schools as reasons that Waukee was selected. Waukee is a unique mix of old and new, combining small-town familiarity with suburban opportunity. The city experienced substantial growth over the last decade, growing more than 169%. Waukee School District is growing, too. The district recently launched its Aspiring Professional Experience (APEX) program for high school students, finished construction on a new 8th and 9th grade building opening this fall, and began construction on its eighth elementary school.

Waukee, just 17 miles from downtown Des Moines, is becoming a top destination for homebuyers because of the city's affordable housing, extraordinary schools, and exceptional community involvement. Frequent community events, such as the annual Celebrate Waukee festival and the annual BACooN Ride, draw hundreds of residents and visitors. The highly active Parks and Recreation Department, Public Library, Police and Fire Departments, schools, and Downtown Business group, work together to ensure the community remains a great place for families.
