During the Waukee Police Department's annual dinner, Officer Brian Murra (left in photo) was named the 2016 Officer of the Year. Officer Murra received the Officer of the Year honor for consistent commitment to taking on additional tasks and following through for the department. Chief John Quinn noted that Murra shows exceptional leadership which benefits the entire Waukee PD.
He played a vital role in putting on Safety City in 2016 - the department's annual safety camp for incoming kindergarten students. He also leads the way for the PD's new Neighborhood Watch program and is a champion for the annual Shop With a Cop program. Officer Murra recently stepped into the role of School Resource Officer at Waukee High School. And, Quinn added that he is "exactly what we think of when we talk about how we want our officers to conduct themselves." Congrats to Officer Murra!
Chief Quinn also awarded two Chief's Recognition Awards. Waukee Police Officer Brett Armstrong received the award for his outstanding life-saving efforts in an incident that transpired on the I-80 mile-marker 117 overpass. Waukee Fire Department Captain Tomme Tysdal received the honor for his hard work in assisting the Police Department with its new CAD system and all the moving parts that came with the switch.
