Christine Crone, Candidate for City Council
Family and Occupation
I have lived in Waukee for 19 years with my husband and two daughters. I have a grandson who just turned seven. My oldest daughter loved Waukee so much she wanted her kids to live and attend school here. My full-time job is with Iowa Association of Electric Cooperatives (IAEC). I am a benefit specialist working with employee healthcare, life insurance and pension plans. I've also been a part of the Waukee Family YMCA team for the past nine years and don't think I will ever completely leave. Right now I provide Leadership Team support, assisting wherever I am needed.
Why are you running for City Council?
Making a difference in my community is very important to me. In the past 19 years as a resident I have been a Girl Scout leader, a member of the Waukee RAGBRAI organization committee and an events volunteer through the City, Waukee Community School District and the Waukee Family YMCA. I have been on the Waukee Park Board for five years and am currently in my second year as president. This past year I have met with City staff along with state and federal government officials for discussions about fair and affordable housing in Waukee.
What qualifications do you believe make you a viable candidate?
In talking with, and listening to, citizens all over the community, I understand the need for some folks to have a voice on the City Council. If elected, I plan to continue working on fair housing, supporting public safety and improving communication between the City Administration and the citizens of Waukee. I would consider it a privilege to serve the people of Waukee and to contribute to its growth and prosperity
