Ben Sinclair, Candidate for City Council
Family and Occupation
My family includes my wife Sarah, our daughter Amelia and our cat Gracie. We have enjoyed living in Waukee for nearly 10 years and have seen it grow rapidly. My wife and I both work from home, which allows us to enjoy our City and its wonderful parks, restaurants and other amenities daily. We are also proud to live in a tight-knit community, and we are fortunate to call many of our neighbors our friends (another reason we love the quality of life Waukee offers)! I am a software developer working with clients to build digital marketing systems, building both software and electronic hardware prototypes for startups. I'm also involved in two local startups of my own. I am fortunate to work with amazing companies and business owners, and I get to hear firsthand about the challenges they face.
Why are you running for City Council?
I am running for Waukee City Council because I want to help the City of Waukee continue to grow, but I also want to make sure we do it in a way that allows us to keep the small-town feel that all of us enjoy today. I intend to be approachable and happy to listen to the concerns of any resident. I've talked with many residents so far, and some of the areas I will focus on include neighborhood traffic issues, government transparency, development strategies that keep our small-town feel, and sustainable, environment-friendly development goals.
What qualifications do you believe make you a viable candidate?
I will bring an honest and transparent approach to the City Council. As a resident, I care about the quality of life Waukee provides to me and my family. As a business owner, I care about the day-to-day challenges businesses face. I believe this gives me a unique perspective and will allow me to make the best decisions for our City. I am also a very logical person; I like to collect the facts and research viable options. I will not react in haste, and I will look to residents, business owners and visitors to provide feedback on where we can do better (and what is going well). My schedule is very flexible, so I will be able to dedicate the time needed to help our City and residents any way I can. While this is my first venture into politics, I strongly believe I am the right person for the job. I want to represent Waukee so that my family and yours can continue to enjoy all that our City has to offer.
