Large Garbage Items and Hazardous Waste
You must call ASI at 515-964-5229 to schedule the collection of an appliance. There is a fee of $35 for each appliance.
Furniture and Other Bulky Items
You are allowed one large item per week. There is no fee for furniture pick-up. Bulky items such as boards must be cut to 4 foot lengths, with a 50-lb maximum. Carpets must be cut, rolled and tied. As a courtesy, please notify ASI by calling 515-964-5229 in advance of a large item pick-up so the driver can make preparations.
All items can be dropped off at the landfill for a $10 fee per item. If you have any questions, please ASI at 515-964-5229.
Drop-Off open the second Saturday of the month, March-December in Grimes!
The Northwest Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off is now open in Grimes the second Saturday of the month from March-December from 8 a.m. to noon. The Drop-Off is conveniently located at 4105 SE Beisser Dr. in Grimes at the Metro Northwest Transfer Station just 1 ½ miles NW of interstate 80/35 and Hwy 141.
Hazardous materials are those with labels that say flammable, toxic, corrosive, or keep out of reach of children. Items like oil, gas, pesticides, fertilizers, florescent light bulbs, furniture polish and even oven and other household cleaners contain hazardous ingredients that should not go in your regular trash.
Waukee residents can also utilize the Metro Hazardous Waste Drop-Off in Bondurant Tuesday through Friday from 1-5 p.m. and the first and third Saturday of the month from 8 a.m. to noon. Click here for a full list of accepted materials.

Both Waukee City Hall (230 W. Hickman Road) and the Waukee Public Works Building (805 University Avenue) have recycling drop-boxes for select types of batteries for rechargeable batteries only, including those for laptops, drills cameras, etc. Regular batteries can be thrown away or recycled for a charge at Metro Waste Authority.
