All-Star Sports Camp

This half-day camp is perfect for any sports enthusiast. Each day, participants will be engaged in activities including soccer, flag football, disc golf, kickball, capture the flag, basketball, volleyball, dodgeball, lacrosse, yoga and other classic physical education activities. Registration is open for ages 5 -10. Register

Art in the Park

Put on your Picasso painting hat - it’s time to get artistic! Artists will be able to create a variety of age-appropriate masterpieces, including a personalized canvas, a collective group project and a self-portrait. We may get messy, so please have your artist wear appropriate clothing. Ages 5 - 10. Register

Explore the Outdoors and More

Get away from the electronics and back into nature! This camp will include nature play in different parks and creek beds, activities that help children relate with natural elements and a field trip to the Kuehn Conservation Center. Enjoy an exciting week of nature, fun and learning. Campers will be notified prior to the start of camp of daily activities so they can dress appropriately. Participants will be transported by Parks & Recreation staff during the camp. Ages 5 - 10 years. Register

Red Cross Babysitting Training - June 18 or August 6, 2019

Attend the American Red Cross Babysitting Certification class to gain experience by practicing life-saving babysitting skills on manikins and with other participants. This is a great class for girls and boys getting ready to start babysitting on their own or for those who will be in charge of younger siblings for short periods of time. Participants must be 11 years old and will need to bring a sack lunch. Each participant will receive a Babysitter’s Training Handbook and a starter kit. Register

Splish-Splash Camp

Cool off this summer and travel to three different greater metro area aquatic centers. Make sure to pack sunscreen, a towel, goggles and snack money. Participants will be transported by the Parks & Recreation staff during camp. Ages 8 - 12 years. Register

Storytime in the Park - August 2, 5, 7 & 9, 2019 at 9 a.m.

The Waukee Parks & Recreation Department partners with the Waukee Public Library to offer this FREE program to young bookworms at the Windfield Park Open Shelter. Enjoy themed story books including colors, Studio Bea Dance: 2 to Move ducks, plants and movement followed by a different craft or activity each day after the stories. Please bring a tricycle or bicycle on August 9 for a short ride along the Storywalk. If you are a daycare center planning to attend, please call 515-978-0007 so staff can ensure the proper amount of supplies are provided. All ages welcome. Story will be geared toward children 5 years old and younger.


Take an adventure with a story this spring and summer! The Waukee Public Library and the Parks & Recreation Department have joined together to promote literature and exercise. Enjoy a different book each month displayed along the Heart of the Warrior Trail between 6th Street and the intersection of Ashworth Drive, Northview Drive and Warrior Lane. All ages welcome.

Summer Fun Camp

Join us for an action packed week of summer fun. Participants in this camp will enjoy field trips and playing games and activities in the park for a total of five days of camp with lots of activities to enjoy. Ages 8 - 13 years. Register

Super Snackers

Waukee’s next top chef might be in your own house — let us help you find out! Chefs will learn new, fun and healthy summer snack ideas they can make any time of the year. At the end of each class, each chef will be able to sample their creations and may be able to teach you a thing or two! Please notify the Parks & Recreation Department of any known food allergies when registering for this class. Ages 7-13. Register

Tumbling Tots

This 30-minute, developmental play program is a very basic beginning program for little ones designed to get them exploring large motor movements in a group environment. It emphasizes balance and coordination through basic tumbling moves, exercises and songs. Ages 2 - 3 years. Register

Tumbling Tots 2

This 30-minute program is designed for little gymnasts to learn and increase their basic tumbling motions. They will improve upon their tumbling skills and movements, coordination, strength and balance, by learning somersaults, front flips, back flips and more. Ages 4 - 5 years. Register

Youth in the Parks

This week-long service learning camp gives participants a chance to learn about community betterment by volunteering at various locations in Waukee and surrounding areas. The camp consists of morning volunteer activities, while the afternoons are filled with fun field trips. Campers will need to bring a sack lunch each day for this all-day camp, and they will be notified prior to the start of camp of daily activities so they can dress appropriately. Participants will be transported by Parks & Recreation staff during the camp. Grades 5 - 10 years. Register

Partnered Programs

Bike With Cops - May 18, 2019

The Waukee Police Department is introducing “Bike With Cops” - a new annual bike ride for children in the Waukee Community School District. Children can enjoy a safety talk, two-mile bike ride and lunch with Waukee Police Officers! This is for experienced riders only; no training wheels, please. Helmets are required. Grades 2-6. Camp Braniac

Camp Brainiac is a summer day camp for kids ages 6-12! It was created with a mission to avoid the dreaded “summer backslide.” Research shows that kids lose academic ground over the summer. Created and operated by licensed Iowa teachers, Brainiac campers will spend their days immersed in experiential learning. Teachers align camp fun with Iowa’s Core Curriculum requirements. Campers have plenty of outdoor and free time to burn off energy, too. This isn’t like REAL summer school! Register

Cheer Camp

The Parks & Recreation Department is partnering with the Waukee High School Cheerleading Squad to offer a four-day Cheerleading Camp. This camp will provide girls and boys with an opportunity to learn cheerleading techniques and new cheers. Ages 5 - 10. Register

Dickey’s Ryukyu: Little Ninjas and Karate

Kids will learn the basic fundamentals of taekwondo and karate in a developmentally-appropriate format. Classes focus on the proper use of martial arts, selfrespect, self-discipline and coordination of mind and body. The instructor Dickey Renshi has more than 25 years of martial arts teaching experience. He is an elementary teacher and three-time inductee into the Martial Arts Hall of Fame. Little Ninjas classes are for ages 2-6 and Karate classes are for ages 6 and older. Register

Home Alone Awareness - April 27, 2019

Thinking of leaving your child at home alone this summer? Make sure they are safe! This class is taught by the Waukee Police and Fire Departments. They will provide educational tools and safety tips to help keep your child safe and aware of dangers in and around your house. Drinks and snacks will be provided. Registration is open for grades K-5. Register

ISU Extension and Outreach

Iowa State University Extension and Outreach connects the research and resources from ISU to meet the needs and improve the lives of Iowans. Youth development programming offered in Waukee this summer includes the Inventors Workshop and Kids in the Kitchen. In Kids in the Kitchen, kids will prepare and taste healthy foods, take away kitchen safety knowledge and more. In the hands-on Inventors Workshop, participants will learn basic STEAM concepts and techniques. Grades K-6 Register

Music Speaks

Music Speaks, previously Kids in Harmony, provides live, interactive rhythm and music instruction with instruments and voice. No musical skill or background is needed to be successful within this group. The use of music is appealing to most children and creates a safe and structured environment to develop new skills. The goals are to have fun and carry over the desired skills to everyday life. Ages 0-6. Register

Rounded Minds™

Rounded Minds™ programs are bilingual and highenergy! Unique programming focuses on building healthy bodies and minds while learning a second language. Children will receive instruction in Spanish while having fun and learning new skills. Participants can choose to register for one or ALL Rounded Minds programs: Sports Exploration, Soccer, Art and/or Tumbling! Ages 2-8.Register

Studio Bea Dance: 2 to Move Rounded Minds™

Studio Bea Dance’s 30-minute introductory class is designed for parents and their little dancer to bond and have fun. Dancers will gain confidence, and improve social and gross motor skills, all while using their imagination to learn and explore dance and movement. Children ages 18 months through 3 years old are invited to register for this program. Register

Sunflower Fine Art

Sunflower Fine Art studio is owned by professional artist Tingting S. Beck. Her art has been honored at various professional art competitions, and she has taught art classes for nearly a decade. Children will learn the basic concepts of drawing three-dimensional objects on twodimensional paper, and then will move on to drawing still life objects. Adult classes focus on basic sketching, still life and color painting. Grades K-10. Register

Waukee High School’s Cheer Camp

The Parks & Recreation Department is partnering again with the Waukee High School Cheerleading Squad to offer Cheer Camp June 24-27. This camp will provide girls and boys with an opportunity to learn cheerleading techniques and new cheers. Parents are encouraged to watch on the last day when cheerleaders will perform a short routine from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Ages 5-10. Register
