Dickey’s Ryukyu Karate (Jiu Jitsu) Little Ninjas & Karate,

This early childhood program teaches the basic fundamentals of Taekwondo and Karate in a developmentally appropriate format to suit young children. The class will focus on building proper use of martial arts, self-respect, self-discipline and coordination of mind

and body. The instructor, Dickey Renshi, has been teaching martial arts for more than 25 years and is an early childhood elementary school teacher. He is also a three-time inductee into the Martial Arts Hall of Fame. All sessions will take place on Wednesdays at the Waukee Public Works Building. Little Ninjas (ages 4-6) will go from 6-6:30 p.m., and Karate (ages 6 and up) will go from 6:35-7:35 p.m. The cost for Little Ninjas is $35, and Karate is $40. Ages 4 & up. Register!

Engineering for Kids

All sessions will take place at the Waukee Community Center. The cost is $35 per session.

Junior Robotics (Grades K-2)

This class is a perfect mixture of fun and learning, using LEGO® WeDo™ Robots. Using LEGO bricks, students build a dancing bird, a smart spinner and a drumming monkey. They also learn how to program and operate their creations using a laptop computer. Choose from either the January 19 or February 16, 2019 session. They take place at the from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Register!

Robotics 101 with Mindstorm EV3 (Grades 3-5) 

Students will learn the basics about LEGO® Mindstorm EV3 robotics. Robotics 101 offers hands-on, minds-on robotics curriculum that will engage students as they construct authentic, open-minded designs that work independent of computer programming. Choose from either the January 19 or February 16, 2019 session. They take place from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Register!

Kids in Harmony Music for the Young Child

Kids in Harmony classes will get you exploring musical play with your child! We strive to build confidence, develop academic and motor skills as well as further communication skills in this developmentally focused music class. Reap the benefits at home after sharing this bonding time with your child! Classes are taught at the Waukee Community Center on Thursdays from 5:45-6:15 p.m. by music therapists who provide quality live music and are fully inclusive of children of all abilities. Register today for this enriching opportunity to move, sing and explore musical play! Adult required to attend with participant. Ages 0-6. Register!

Red Cross Babysitting Training

Attend the American Red Cross Babysitting Certification class either on December 27, 2018 or February 22, 2019 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Waukee Public Works Building Gain life experience by practicing babysitting skills on manikins and with other participants. Participants need to bring a sack lunch. Each participant will receive a Babysitter’s Training Handbook and a starter kit. Ages 11 & upRegister!

Rounded Minds Spanish Language Immersion

Rounded Minds’™ mission is to make top-level extracurricular activities available, convenient and affordable, to parents who desire to raise well-rounded children and establish a strong foundation for their lifelong success. Every Rounded Minds class is designed and led by attentive experts committed to providing safe, energetic, creative and fun educational experiences. These are bilingual programs that offer children experiences in sports and other subjects without the threat of competition. Basic skills and fun games will reinforce listening, teamwork, and the joy of being active.


Kids will learn fundamental soccer principles such as foot work, dribbling, passing, ball control and shooting by using creative games. The cost is $75 per session. Session 1 is held at Ridge Pointe Park, and Sessions 2 and 3 are held at the Waukee Public Works Building. Ages 3-6. Register!

Zumba - Fridays, October 12-November 16, 2018

This fun class emphasizes getting kids moving while introducing them to basic salsa, modern dance, Latin dances and the Spanish language. The cost is $75 and the session is held at the Waukee Public Works Building. Ages 4-6 will go from 5:30-6:15 p.m., and ages 7-11 will go from 6:15-7 p.m. Ages 4-11. Register!


The tumbling program allows young children to enhance their social skills and develop greater strength, flexibility and coordination. The cost is $50 for ages 2-3 and $63 for ages 4-7. All sessions are held at the Waukee Public Works Building. Ages 2-7.

  1. Mondays, October 22-November 19 (Ages 2-3 go 5:30-6 p.m., and ages 4-7 go 6-7 p.m.)

Art - Wednesdays, November 28-December 19, 2018
Classes in the art program help children develop new artistic skills and craftsmanship while creating unique masterpieces using a wide range of quality materials. The cost is $50, and the session is held at Ridge Pointe Pavilion from 6-7 p.m. Ages 3-8. Register!

Sports Exploration - Thursdays, November 29-December 20, 2018
This five-week program is a great way for children to experience a variety of new games and activities (such as soccer, softball, volleyball, etc.) in a format that is structured, engaging and most of all... FUN! The cost is $50, and the session is held at the Waukee Public Works Building from 6-7 p.m. Ages 3-6. Register!

Storywalk, Ongoing

Take an adventure with a story! The Waukee Public Library and the Parks & Recreation Department have join together to promote literature and exercise. Enjoy a different book each month displayed along the Heart of the Warrior Trail between 6th Street and the intersection of Ashworth Drive, Northview Drive and Warrior Lane. All ages welcome.

Studio Bea Dance 2 to Move

This 30-minute class is designed for parents and their little dancer to bond while having fun. Dancers will gain confidence, improve social and gross motor skills, all while using their imagination to learn and explore dance and movement. The classes are held from 9:15-9:45 a.m. at the Waukee Public Works Building. A parent or guardian must accompany each child as they will take an active role in their dancer’s skill development.

Ages 18 months-3 years old. Register!

Sunflower Fine Art

Children will learn the basic concepts of drawing three-dimensional objects on two-dimensional paper. Concentrate on basic shapes including cubes, spheres and cones at the beginning. The cost if $135, and materials are included. The studio is located at 268 W. Hickman Road. K-4 students will attend from 4:30-5:45 p.m., and grades 5-10 will attend from 6-7:30 p.m. Grades K-10. Register!

Teams of Tomorrow Creative Basketball Ball Handling & Dribbling

TOT is a creative ball handling and dribbling program! We use music, academic enrichment and basketballs to improve physical and mental growth. We take a basket out of basketball and focus on individual accomplishments. Sessions will take place on Thursdays from 6-6:40 p.m. at the Waukee Public Works Building. The cost per session is $39. Ages 3-5. Register!

Tot Lot: October 1, 2018-April 10, 2019

Romp, stomp and play! We have the set-up to meet your children’s activity and social needs this spring. With toddler toys ranging from blocks to tunnels and mats, there’s no shortage of action here. We provide the fun. Parents provide the supervision in this open gym for toddlers where kids play and parents socialize with one another. This is a non-structured activity held at the Waukee Public Works Building on Mondays from 8:30-10:30 a.m. and Wednesdays from 8-10 a.m. Special Pop-Up Tot Lots will also be held on Saturdays: December 8, 22 and 29. Tot Lot will be cancelled when Waukee Schools are delayed and/or if there is inclement weather. Tot Lot will be closed 11/12, 12/24, and 2/18 but will be open the week of Spring Break. Toddlers welcome

Tumbling Tots & Tumbling Tots 2

This 30-minute program is designed for little gymnasts to learn and increase their basic tumbling motions in a group environment. It emphasizes balance and coordination through basic tumbling moves, exercises and songs. The child must be of the required age prior to the start of the session. An adult is required to participate with the participant(s) during the 2-3 year-old sessions. Register!
