Community organizations are welcome to submit events to the City of Waukee Events Calendar from the “Add Event” button on the homepage. The City encourages submission of events which cater to the whole community such as pancake breakfasts, free concerts, ribbon cuttings and so on. The Events Calendar is not intended to promote private programming or sales initiatives, or to support a political party or candidate. The City has the right to decline any calendar submissions.

  4. Elementary Coding: Finch Avoids Asteroids

    July 24, 2019, 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM @ Waukee Public Library

    All coding classes will use the Scratch programming language to control Finch robots. No prior coding experience is necessary. Students entering 3rd-5th grades in the fall will work in pairs with library staff and teen volunteers. These robots and programs are made possible by a grant from Birdbrain Technologies, LLC. www.birdbraintechnologies.com Registration is required and will open 3 weeks prior to the event. Young coders will program Finch to move safely through an asteroid field obstacle course.

  8. Space Camp: Luciana Braving the Deep

    Families with students preparing to enter Kindergarten-5th grade will enjoy this program to exercise their minds and bodies while learning about space. Each camp will begin with astronaut exercises, then we will watch and listen to an astronaut read a story from the International Space Station, and end with a STEAM experiment or activity to extend the learning from the story. Care-givers should remain in the program. Registration is required for each individual session. In this session, we will hear a selection from Luciana Braving the Deep, plant carrots and make sun paper art.

  12. Save the Planet Escape Room

    Choose your teammates wisely and bring all your brain-power to try to save the planet! NASA needs your help to crack the lock on a missing employee’s safe. The safe holds a coded message from aliens that could determine the fate of intergalactic relations. This Escape Room will be the same as the Save the Planet Escape Room for teens Monday, July 15. This event is open to adults and youth who will be in 6-12th grades in the fall.
