joe carroll newsflash

The City of Waukee is pleased to have Joe Carroll on board as the new Golf Course Superintendent at Sugar Creek Municipal Golf Course. Carroll is already busy managing the day-to-day golf course maintenance. He is in charge of turf management including chemical applications, mowing and aerification. He will also lead a team of 3-5 employees.

Carroll comes to Sugar Creek from Norwalk’s Legacy Golf Club at which he spent 17 years; 12 of which he served as Superintendent. He has a bachelor’s degree in Agronomy specializing in Turfgrass from Iowa State University. He resides in Waukee with his wife TeRay and their three sons. Throughout the selection process for this position, Carroll received glowing recommendations from the Des Moines Metro golf community.

“Sugar Creek Municipal Golf Course sees nearly 24,000 rounds of golf each year. It’s a tall order to keep the course in pristine condition given those numbers,” said Waukee Parks & Recreation Director Matt Jermier. “We think Joe is the right person to take on that challenge. We’ve seen great success at the golf course in recent years, and Joe’s experience, leadership skills and work ethic will be able to take us to the next level.”

Sugar Creek Municipal Golf Course is a nine-hole, Par 34 course located at 1505 6th Street in Waukee; it features a driving range, putting green and chipping area. The course is open mid-March through mid-November, weather permitting.
