The Waukee Public Library will host the Dr. Mayank K. Kothari STEAM Expo to celebrate the addition of 17 new STEAM kits to the library’s collection. STEAM stands for “Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math”. The event, for families with school-age children, will be held Saturday, Feb. 24 at 10 a.m. at the Waukee Public Library.

The new STEAM kits are being donated in memory of Dr. Mayank K. Kothari. His son, Kaushal Kothari, invested in this initiative in honor of his late father because he believes STEAM skills are very important for children to have as they prepare for the future.

The 17 new kits join an already existing collection of 16 kits (provided by the Waukee Public Library Friends Foundation), bringing the library’s total to 33. The kits feature games or objects which help develop STEAM skills. Students can learn how to knit, use a microscope or telescope, build robots, learn to code and more. Just like books, the STEAM kits can be checked out for three weeks at a time.

Kaushal Kothari will give a short speech at 10 a.m., and a ribbon cutting with be held at 10:15 a.m. The public is then welcome to try out the new STEAM kits.
