[ARCHIVED] Nearly 160 Tons of Materials Collected During Spring Clean-Up

Curbside Waste

During the 2018 Spring Clean-Up Week, Waukee residents put a total of 156 tons of unwanted materials on the curbs. Garbage provider ASI reported a vast array of items picked up from televisions and carpets to mattresses and even pianos. Waukee residents also disposed of 6,669 pounds of hazardous materials such as oil-based paints, acids and batteries at various drop-off locations on May 5. The hazardous materials were then safely disposed of.

Did you find more stuff to get rid of while spring cleaning? Many items like furniture, electronics and EMPTY OR DRIED OUT cans of latex paint can be put out with regular garbage. Also, the Metro Waste Authority Northwest Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off in Grimes is open the second Saturday of the month from March-December, 8 a.m. to noon. The Drop-Off site is located at 4105 SE Beisser Dr. in Grimes. See a list of accepted items.
