The Waukee Police Department has concluded an extensive search process following this morning’s report of a suspicious person near the Waukee Community School District’s secondary campus. The department has determined there is no immediate threat to any district facility or to the public. Waukee High School, Prairieview, Waukee Middle School and the District Administration Office are no longer on an external lockdown and school will dismiss at the normal times.

At 10:10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 23, Westcom Communications received a phone call reporting a suspicious person thought to be carrying a rifle. The caller described the subject as a white male, age 20, who was wearing black clothes and a backpack. The caller stated that the subject was walking in the direction of the Waukee Community School District’s secondary campus.

Waukee High School, Prairieview, Waukee Middle School and the District Administration Office were immediately put on a precautionary external lockdown. Classes continued with their normal schedules throughout the lockdown. Fifth-grade students at the Waukee Stadium for Track and Field Day were relocated to their school buildings.

Again, it was determined that there is no immediate threat to district buildings or to the public.
