Waukee Fire Department Firefighter/Paramedics Chandler Thayer and Syndney Tobis shared information about EMS careers with Waukee APEX students. They also walked students through an emergency medical procedure.
On Sept. 20, 2019, members of the Waukee Fire Department visited the Waukee APEX Exploration of Health Sciences & Medicine classes. Firefighter/Paramedics Chandler Thayer and Sydney Tobis shared detailed information about EMS/paramedic careers with the students. Students got to tour and hear about all the inner workings of an ambulance. Thayer and Tobis also walked students through a cricothyrotomy procedure using pig tracheas. This procedure is an incision made to establish a patient's airway during certain life-threatening situations.
