Original Post:
If you’re traveling on Hickman Road this week, be prepared for 4-way flashing red lights or temporary stop signs. When you see these, treat the intersection like a 4-way stop. Our contractor is working on signal cabinets, so we can add flashing yellow turn lights on Hickman later this spring. This Traffic Signal Enhancement Project will help improve traffic flow from side streets.
You may encounter a 4-way flashing red light for periods between 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at these intersections:
Monday, March 31: Hickman & 2nd Street
Tuesday, April 1: Hickman & 6th Street
Thursday, April 3: Hickman & 10th Street
Friday, April 4: Hickman & 4th Street
This video can help you understand how to navigate a 4-way stop in a multi-lane road: The rules of the 4-way stop. Skip ahead to about 48 seconds to get tips and see a simulation of multiple cars coming to the intersection early at the same time.
Please note this schedule is our plan as of March 31 and is subject to change. We will have work at additional intersections next week. To get the most current update, come back to this page. Thanks for your patience as we work to keep Waukee moving safely and efficiently!
