[ARCHIVED] Celebrate Waukee Encourages Participation in the Central Bank Kids' Challenge

Movie screening in Centennial Park

One of Celebrate Waukee’s most popular events – the Central Bank Kids’ Challenge – will take place Saturday, June 4 as part of the annual festival. Waukee Community School District students in kindergarten through fifth grade are encouraged to participate in the event held at Centennial Park at 2 p.m. to work toward a common goal for their respective elementary schools. The challenge will include field day-inspired games and a kids’ fun run, wrapping up around 4 p.m.

Students will receive a “pom-pom” for every event in which they participate. The students will place pom-poms in their school’s labeled bucket. The school with the most pom-poms at the end of the event will receive $500 from Central Bank to put toward a project of their choice. Participants are also encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item to donate to the Waukee Area Christian Services Food Pantry.

“The Central Bank Kids’ Challenge provides opportunities for students to connect and support the district’s elementary schools. Students I don’t always see motivated within the school walls become excited and are challenged. They utilize teamwork and problem-solving strategies to effectively earn pom-poms for their school,” said Maple Grove Elementary Assistant Principal Haley Topp. “The kids’ hard work and determination paid off during the challenge last year, and most importantly, their confidence and pride in Maple Grove shined brightly for all to see.”
