[ARCHIVED] Waukee Middle School Salutes Public Safety Officials

middle school visit

In response to the tragic deaths of Des Moines Police Sergeant Tony Beminio and Urbandale Police Officer Justin Martin, more than 700 students from Waukee Middle School saluted police and fire/EMS personnel on November 9th. The students walked from school to the Waukee Public Safety Building and saluted personnel from the Waukee Police Department, Waukee Fire Department, Dallas County Sheriff's Department, West Des Moines Fire Department, Iowa State Patrol and Polk County Sheriff's Office.

The students made cards, gave speeches, played the national anthem, sang "My Country 'Tis of Thee" and presented handmade artwork. The crowd also had a moment of silence for Sgt. Tony Beminio and Officer Martin. All departments are truly appreciative of the outpouring of community support.
