[ARCHIVED] Kick Off the Holidays at Winterfest Friday, Dec. 2!

winterfest

Bring on the holiday cheer with Waukee's free, annual WinterFest celebration on Friday, Dec. 2 in the Downtown Triangle District. Downtown Waukee Businesses will host open houses beginning at 4:30 p.m. The rest of the festivities kick off at 6 p.m. when Santa Claus and Waukee Mayor Bill Peard light the WinterFest holiday tree!

“One of the greatest joys of the holidays is getting together with family, friends and neighbors,” said Mayor Bill Peard. “WinterFest offers an early opportunity to do that, and the event fills Waukee with the magic of the season.”

After the tree lighting, kids can visit Santa at the Waukee Community Center. Guests can watch ice sculptor Bill Gordish create holiday pieces, enjoy hot cocoa and cookies, make art with the Waukee Arts Council, hear carolers and embark on a scavenger hunt. An old-fashioned trolley will circle residential streets as well with the annual WinterFest Light Tour.

It wouldn't be a Waukee festival without an element of giving back to the community. Organizers are asking attendees to bring non-perishable food items or new, unwrapped toys that will be distributed to those in need by Waukee Area Christian Services. Items can be dropped off at the Community Center during the event or at the Waukee Public Works Building December 5-9.

Parking: Several of the streets in the Downtown Triangle will be closed for WinterFest. Parking will be available at the Vince Meyer Learning Center parking lot located at 400 Locust Street.
