[ARCHIVED] A Message from the Chief Regarding the Parkland, FL Tragedy

Our thoughts are with those affected by the February 14 mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. We do not know the full details of why the individual committed this horrendous act. However, we do want to remind the public to always report suspicious activity – it can really make a difference.

If You See Something, Say Something®, whether it is a threat or a violent post on social media, a vehicle parked in an odd location, extended loitering, observation of a building with binoculars or video, etc. Suspicious activity can be reported to dispatch at 515-222-3321 or anonymously to the Waukee Crime Stoppers by calling 515-987-9000 or by text messaging 515-490-2190. Of course, in an emergency, call 911!

Please also do not hesitate to help friends or loved ones find treatment for mental health issues. The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) provides a referral service which can be reached by calling 1-800-950-NAMI (6264), Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. As a reminder, the national Suicide Prevention Lifeline is 1-800-273-TALK.

Thank you for your role in keeping Waukee safe. As always, the safety and welfare of our community members is paramount.

-Waukee Police Chief John Quinn
