The Waukee Police Department is encouraging residents to review these holiday safety tips to prevent theft.

  1. Lock your cars at all times.
  2. Do not leave keys, fobs or garage door openers in cars when parked outside the home.
  3. Do not leave valuables in your car, especially overnight.
  4. If you must leave valuables in your car, place them in the trunk or some other place out of sight.
  5. If you have an attached garage, close the overhead door after you park your car.
  6. If you are expecting packages to be delivered when no one will be home, consider having them delivered to your workplace.
  7. Beware of scams this time of year. Avoid giving or sending money to people you have not met in person. If you are meeting them in person, meet in a public place.
  8. Immediately report suspicious activity to the Waukee Police Department. Non-emergency dispatch can be reached at 515-222-3321. For emergencies, call 911.

The Waukee PD also offers a free House Check Program for those away for the holidays for five consecutive days or more and/or "snowbirds" leaving for the entire winter. Learn more about the House Check Program.

The Department wishes you and yours happy holidays!
