Art Benches
Come sit in style at Triangle Park and Triumph Park. Fun meets function with our artfully awesome benches that were painted by four talented local artists. Each bench is made from pieces of recycled wind turbines. They’re not just places to sit—they tell stories, spark curiosity, and make our parks even more welcoming. Triangle Park
The Downtown Triangle is a unique shape and a gathering spot all year long from summer farmers markets to WinterFest. This inspired the Waukee Public Art Advisory Commission to ask artists to incorporate the seasons or triangles in their design. Our talented horticulture technician will fill the planters with blooms. We invite you to linger with loved ones for a conversation or an ice cream as you relax on one of the colorful benches.
Maggie's bench flows seamlessly through all four seasons. From the artist: “The movement of the design brings life to Triangle Park and alludes to the beauty of Waukee and its natural surroundings. I also included some Waukee landmarks to create a sense of pride in the city.” See more from Maggie at MD Studio.
Sadagat's bench welcomes you with open arms. On the other side, birds share the joy of flight. From the artist: “The form of the object made me think out of the box to come up with an idea that can tell a story and create a feeling of continuity and openness. My aim for this mural, titled “Hug,” is to give the viewers a warm, welcoming feeling; inspire children to climb, sit on this bench and feel they’re held with love and kindness. I had so much fun painting this mural.” See more of her work at Sadagat Aliyeva Illustrations.
Triumph Park
Artists were asked to match the vibrant energy of the colorful, inclusive playground and take inspiration from the theme behind Triumph Park's name. They both came back with scenes that show people of all abilities are invited to play in Triumph Park. You're invited to rest on the benches to watch your kids play or to enjoy the sun shining on the pond.
Courtney's bench celebrates the joy of play and the vibrant energy of the park. From the artist: "The continuous line drawings of kids playing really capture a sense of movement and playfulness that fits the spirit of the park perfectly! I hope this bench serves as a little reminder that kindness really does matter. Sometimes, it’s the simplest things—a smile, a quick hello, or just taking a moment to listen—that can turn someone’s whole day around. You never know the difference a small act of kindness can make, so why not share a bit more of it?” See more from Courtney at Art You Wood Love.
Paula and Randy pulled details from the playground. See if you can spot all the different elements! From the artists: “The challenging part of this bench was finally deciding what to paint on it because we had so many ideas that came to mind. We wanted to include everyone in this bench, so putting Triumph Park in sign language is something that we’re super stoked about, and putting each letter in a different shade of skin color ties it all together. We can’t wait to see the bench out here in the sun so all the kids can see the glitter we added to the top portion of the bench.” See more of their work at Crooked St Studios.
