Overview

The Heart of the Warrior Trail helps to unify the Waukee community by providing a continuous trail through the core of established neighborhoods in the city. The trail starts northeast of Waukee’s Centennial Park and runs east-to-west through the city for three miles. Thanks to a $125,000 REAP grant secured from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources in 2011, the trail crosses Alice’s Road and connects to Clive’s Greenbelt Trail in Lions Park.

A new trailhead and rest area was added in summer 2023 along Ashworth Drive, west of S Warrior Lane. The new space includes a small parking lot, shade structure, butterfly gardens, bike racks and a bike repair station.
