University Ave Extension

The City of Waukee is working on enhancements to University Avenue that will close the current gap of this important road to better support residents and visitors in traveling across Waukee. Planning and land acquisition has been underway since 2021.

The University Avenue Extension project will be completed over several years. In addition to closing the gap between S Warrior Lane and 6th Street, this project includes improvements to several streets that intersect with University Avenue.

  • In 2025, work was completed on University Avenue between 11th Street and 10th Street, including installing the installation of a new drainage box culvert and two pedestrian underpasses for future trail improvements.
  • In 2026, work continues at the S Warrior Lane and University Avenue intersection with improvements to University Avenue from S Warrior Lane west to Sugar Creek and on S Warrior Lane from University Avenue to Park Road/Ford Lane.
  • From 2027-2029, we expect to work on the section of University Avenue from our Public Works building just west of 6th Street to 3rd Street as well as improvements to 6th Street from 10th Street to Gray Avenue.
  • In 2029-2030, construction is planned to complete the remaining gap from 3rd Street to St. Boniface Church along with trails and stream restoration work.
  • In 2030-2031, University Ave from S Warrior Lane to SE LA Grant Parkway will be widened to four lanes.
