New Construction Water Meter Service

Residential

• Plumbing will be completed by the plumber.
• The meter location must be accessible to the Water Department.
• The meter must not be installed until stairs are built to the basement.

Meters are read the 3rd week of the month. For more information on billing refer to the Utility Billing department.

Commercial

Contact the Waukee Water Department with the specifications on the water meter for the commercial building. The meter will then be ordered by the Water Department and installed when the plumbing for the building has been completed.

The commercial water meter hook-up fee is based on the size of the meter and materials needed when the meter is set and is billed out separately from the building permit.

Irrigation - Non-Subcontractive Set-up

• Plumbing will be completed by the plumber and set up as an "add-on" system with the meter coming into the home and splitting out to a "T" with one direction for the indoor plumbing and one direction for the outdoor plumbing. View Plumbing Diagram (PDF).
• If connected to an underground irrigation system, the backflow preventer must be installed before the irrigation meter is set.
• The meter location must be accessible to the Water Department.
• The meter must not be installed until stairs are built to the basement.
• The cost of a 1" irrigation meter is $360.00 (meter only).
